What is KYC?
KYC (Know Your Customer) refers to a series of measures and procedures implemented by financial institutions, payment service providers, and other related organizations to understand the identity and background information of their customers. KYC requires institutions to conduct necessary investigations and verifications of their customers to ensure they are compliant with relevant regulations and their customers are who they claim to be.
Why is KYC necessary?
KYC is a compliance requirement for financial institutions and other related organizations. According to Australian Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) regulations and related provisions, financial institutions and regulated entities are required to conduct KYC on their customers and take necessary measures to identify and prevent money laundering, terrorism financing, and other illegal activities.
KYC helps protect customers from fraud and abuse. By requiring customers to provide valid identification and other necessary information, financial institutions can ensure the protection of customers' interests and prevent them from becoming victims of fraudulent activities.
